Augusto Tavares Dias was born in Porto in 1953. When he turned 15, his family moved to Lisbon and he got a degree in painting. After finishing his studies he began working for advertising agencies such as Young & Rubicam and Saatchi & Saatchi as a designer and creative director.
His work is about simplicity, silence and time: eroded things, faded calligraphy pieces, ancient papers and books. It's also about poetry. He loves abandoned everyday objects, dirty walls, old houses, phrases erased, signs that resemble words.
His works are filled with emptiness, pale, almost white backgrounds, from which some signs appear and disappear creating a kind of interior atmospheres.
